This week, we are focusing on the Prairie Hat.
As we head into Spring 2017 the 1970s influences from previous seasons continue, with updated folkloric 1970s styles and a soft and romantic, prairie-girl vibe. Styling is feminine, relaxed and effortless.
The palette is muted, with hints of deep navy, clay red and burgundy adding subtle colour. The key fabrics are Gingham and denim, along with broderie anglaise which makes a comeback as an important fashion fabric.
Vintage inspired clashing pattern combinations add to the feminine and bohemian feel. Different small scale prints, ranging from florals to paisleys are worked into printed scarves, jacquard patterns and hat trims.
In terms of hat shapes, the flat top boater and new shape cloche are key fashion styles, sitting alongside the traditional trilby and wide brim feminine floppy hat – all with floral, crochet lace or folk braid trims to update.
