OPULENCE – ON TREND FOR AUTUMN / WINTER 2016
Outright opulence. It was a trend we spotted all over fashion week catwalks at the start of the year and it’s one that Boardmans was quick to incorporate within our key stories for 2016.
Julien Macdonald was one of the designers to drive the trend – his autumn / winter ready-to-wear collection boasted sumptuous embellishment and luxe silks, with jewel tone colours surrounded by black in a range of textures and materials.
So it goes without saying that it was delightful to develop the trend board for the decidedly decadent and oh-so-luxe aesthetic that is Opulence. By bringing the look to life in this way, we hope to inspire our clients – many of the UK’s leading fashion retailers – with ideas for accessories that we know their customers will love.
This story’s rich tones – the season’s core colourways of berry and teals – ooze sophistication. At Boardmans we’re pairing the enriched blue-green of deep teal with the jewel-hues of mulberry and cranberry in our Opulence trend board. We’re also adding rich chocolates, sapphire blues and accents of luxury with metallic yarns, and in particular gold. Tapping into this trend of sparkling wovens, the lurex knit snood is already set to be a key accessory that we’re developing for 2016.
Each of these hues provides a warming alternative – and subtle pop of colour – to the more traditional autumn / winter l colourways of black, grey and navy blue. They’re also a popular choice for retailers looking to boost seasonal sales with fabulously festive colourways.
Making these jewel-toned accessories even more opulent, we’ve included single coloured plush fur stoles within our Opulence story.
Chunky and bold, we’re making a real focus of the texture of this accessory, which is sure to add the finishing touches to any outfit.
Using these jewel-toned colourways as a base, we’re adding flashy rhinestones, faceted gems and crystals to create even more opulence and luxe.
By blending, patching and layering intricate, multi-coloured knit and weave constructions we’re creating heavily textured, oh-so-sophisticated accessories. Embellished knits are key to the trend and will be a real focus of our designs for autumn / winter 2016.
And extending the somewhat sophisticated, grown-up look that Opulence creates, we’re also including classic capes, smart felt hats and thermos fedoras within the look.
