MET GALA 2025

Bold Hats and Beautiful Craftsmanship: Our Met Gala 2025 Accessory Takeaways

The fashion Olympics took place last night, and wow, some seriously gold-medal-worthy accessories were on display!

This year’s Met Gala theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, which tied in with The Met’s spring exhibition, celebrating the legacy of Black fashion and dandyism. It was the first theme since 2003 to focus on menswear and tailoring, so accessories were in peak form.

As someone who works in accessories every day, I couldn’t wait to see how guests would interpret the theme through them. In the early hours of this morning, I was scrolling through the photos – and I was so excited to see the amount of headwear! At Boardmans, our roots are in Manchester’s historic hatting district, so seeing hats take centre stage felt like a full-circle moment. We were truly spoilt!

There was no shortage of bold, accessorized looks. We spotted everything from sleek felt boaters and dramatic floppy hats to fedoras, berets, and detailed headpieces. Many guests truly embraced the spirit of Black dandyism, where polished tailoring and strong accessories come together to make a real statement.

My personal favourite has to be Zendaya (no surprise there!). Her look was just incredible – a perfectly tailored ivory suit with a matching floppy felt hat. It was elegant and dramatic, served with the effortless grace Zendaya has down to a T… The floppy felt is a popular style our customers already love, but in pure ivory, it felt fresh and unexpected. (Maybe not the most practical colour for our customers, but certainly one of the most memorable and inspirational!).

This year’s Gala was a great reminder of how powerful accessories can be… They tell stories, honour heritage, and bring life to a look. One of my favourite company quotes of ours is “Think Fresh, Have Fun, Be Stylish” – and that energy was certainly served last night. We’re very excited to see how these themes and silhouettes filter into next season’s trends. Hats off to that!
