Kids AW Trends 2020 – Key Trends You Need to Know

Autumn is officially upon us and you may have already started giving your wardrobe a cosy makeover, but don’t forget about the little ones!

With a rise in parenting bloggers and a greater presence of mini influencers, children’s fashion is becoming increasingly fast-paced and cutting edge.

Mini fashionistas such as Harper Beckham, North West and Prince George are all proving that they’re just as stylish as their grown-up counterparts and setting trends for kids all over the world.

When it comes to choosing kids accessories, AW is the perfect time to have some fun, with loads of quirky styles and bright colours to choose from. If you’re unsure where to start, here’s our lowdown on some of 2020’s biggest cold weather trends for kids…

Sustainability

Sustainability is becoming more and more of a key topic in kids fashion. This is coming through in everything from simple beanies in recyclable yarns to cutting out harmful chemicals and ensuring ethical guidelines are followed in factories. Here at Boardmans we’re actively working to reduce our carbon footprint and work closely with all our factories to develop the highest standards of sustainability and compliance. Colour

Bright and bold colours shouldn’t just be reserved for your summer wardrobe. While AW is often associated with darker, more earthy colour palettes don’t be afraid to explore soft pastels and bright, distinct tones for your kids accessories. Shades of baby pink, cobalt blue, and tomato red are all bang on trend for 2020 and perfect for brightening up a dull, dark winters’ day. They also add a different twist to the more typical deep greens, browns and earthy tones.

Styles

Novelty knits are a big trend in AW kids fashion for 2020. This comes through on simple styles such as bunny/cat ears, all the way through to arctic-inspired animal sets and mythical creature motifs. Sportswear remains a big trend for teen boys in 2020. This means slogan beanies, waterproof fabrics and bright, bold primary colours. For girls look out for scandi inspired fairisle prints, soft pastel tones and colour block knit sets, perfect for cold days out on the slopes.

Fabrics

Unsurprisingly, knitwear is an absolute staple in kids AW fashion. Chunky knitted scarves, hats and gloves are all perfect for keeping little ones warm throughout the colder months. We are also seeing chunky cable knits, cords, and faux fur adding texture and style to the usual AW lineup.

Print

Bold, chunky stripes are always a safe bet for kids AW fashion.

For girls, florals, heritage checks and fair isle patterns are key trends to look out for, with sparkles and embellishments brightening up classic pieces. For boys, expect to see a lot of playful trends, incorporating space inspired prints, subtle camo and novelty animal graphics.

When it comes to keeping up with the latest trends, Boardmans experienced design team are constantly adapting to and staying on top of the latest design intelligence.

Our Boys, Girls and Babies trend books offer key trends which are expected to dominate children’s accessories in 2020, so if you’re already planning ahead or would like to chat to one of our team, please get in touch today.
